The Fishermens Rest

The Fishermens Rest is a small chapel located on the Old Quay in Newlyn Harbour. For more than 20 years it was derelict and out of use, it was in danger of being lost completely. HopeShips with the help of Re-build South West, another local charity and supported financially by the Harbour commission, restored the building, replacing rotten windows and doors, installing a new stove and some kitchen units and generally sprucing the place up. During covid we opened the Rest up for folk to come and sit when we were allowed out for a walk. We would make coffee and had some precious conversations in what was a very tough time for many of us. As we came out of Covid we installed a little cafe in the corner and much like the old Fishermen's Mission canteen, we offer a good value breakfast with tea and coffee. This is a 'not for profit' cafe and will fund the further works of the charity as time goes by.
